The very small Courtyard Tap has a bar area to the right and a sunken area to the left with seating that is faced by an exposed brick fireplace. In the bar area seating runs across the front windows either side the entrance and a counter is found on the rear wall next to six barrels on stillage against the wall to the right. Courtyard Brewing’s Dark and Summer Freedom 2021 were the two options during a recent Friday evening visit, so I went for a pint of the Summer Freedom that was very good. There’s no keg here, but there are bottled lagers among other things in the fridge. I didn’t find the surroundings to be very comfortable, but I enjoyed the beer so maybe I’d pop back in if passing at a quieter time.

We're very much in "just what is a micropub?" territory here, with a rambling old building serving up ale from jacketed casks adjacent to the bar, so possibly much as you might expect. However, those beers are from the sponsoring brewery and, on my visit, comprised a best bitter, labelled as a session IPA and a strong ale (5.9%), so that's obviously against "the rules".
I found that service was friendly, if somewhat haphazard, with attention being focussed on the regulars to the detriment of new arrivals. The room was sufficiently chilly to have me glad I wasn't here in the deep midwinter.
The beer quality didn't really benefit from its gravity dispense, as is often the case, so I concluded that The Courtyard Tap would be a one time only visit, even if the surprisingly large mid-afternoon crowd had a different opinion.
