Smart bar in a good quality hotel, all tastefully furnished and decorated in a traditional style. Various tabled areas extend round what is effectively an island bar, with most of the activity at the rear. Nice outdoor areas also. All very pleasant, but with that intangible yet unavoidable feel of being in an hotel rather than a pub. Just two handpumps in use now - Theakston Best as the regular with one changing ale, being Brew York Extra Pale on this visit and in very good order too. It also doesn't seem pricier than most of the rest of Knaresborough now - perhaps they have caught up.

An expensively refurbished hotel, bar and restaurant. The u shaped bar is partly in the entrance lobby and incorporates the hotel reception. The counter is similarly u shaped with two hand pulls on each of the main faces, different beers on each giving four in total. The rearmost part of the bar is to all intents and purposes a separate room. This has the main seating in a variety of forms, residual walls help to break the space up into smaller more intimate areas. Beers are similar to their Harrogate establishment, Sharps, Theakstons and Roosters being represented, a couple of T-bars serve the nation’s favourites. A little pricey for the area.
