Graham Coombs left this review about The Portly Pig

A nice little place with a couple of downstairs rooms painted up in dark green and more rooms signed upstairs, also a couple of pavement tables. A previous use of the building was as a police station and there are a couple of the original cells down the corridor at the back which can be reserved for private use. It now has 8 crafty things on keg and three hand pumps, on this visit hosting some slightly more-obscure brews from Roosters, Wensleydale and Vocation. A very pleasant laid-back vibe.

Opened 23rd September 2023, it’s a small micro and bottle shop, the main bar is a square ground floor room with the counter along the rear wall. Three cask lines and five keg taps on the back wall, all from Yorkshire breweries bar one keg from Arbor of Bristol; Pennine, Wensleydale and Hambleton casks in the line up. There’s not much room among the tables and chairs, the right hand wall has shelves of bottles and a fridge of cans, it also serves artisan gins. To the right of the counter a vestibule leads to the toilets and a set of fairly steep stairs decorated with flying pigs, leads to the first floor. There are two more small rooms here, the first with chairs and tables, including a couple of armchairs with a window view of Kirkgate, Duck Hill and the Royal Oak opposite, the second room has sofas and a similar view. A small premium is charged on half pints and it’s card only payments. Dog and child friendly.
