This lounge bar with a good town centre location is very much typical of this ever-expanding chain. The pub has a bare boarded interior with a large, open plan layout under floor to ceiling windows. The room has been broken up by a few tile brick clad pillars, but still feels very spacious and impersonal, with no cosy corners and it's only their food-led focus that prevents it from feeling like a drinking barn. The bar is sited in the centre of the back wall and has an old fashioned wood panelled counter and more glazed tile bricks across the bar back, plus a small open kitchen hatch to one side. Seating is the usual mix of practical dining tables and comfier lounge furniture and the decor is typically madcap, with extravagant wallpaper designs and loads of paintings, mirrors, drawings, photos and the like covering the wall space. Fancy chandeliers hang in endless rows through the length of the pub and I noticed a child's play area in the front corner, attesting to the chain's popularity with young families. Plenty of seats can be found out on the pavement alongside a pedestrianised street, making it an ideal people watching spot, whilst inside, jazzy tunes played in the background throughout our stay.
Cask ale tends not to crop up in these Loungers pubs, but various lagers were available on keg and I tried the craft option of Brixton Reliance Pale Ale, which was fine. The staff were all nice and friendly and our lunchtime visit saw the place taken over by diners - I think we were the only people in here just for a drink.
This place wasn't too bad - I found it a reasonable spot to kill some time waiting for a bus and certainly more preferable than walking around Redhill's depressing town centre. It's a bit more impersonal than some other branches of this chain that I've been to, but if you go in with expectations appropriately lowered, it's a solid alternative for those who aren't keen on traditional pubs.
