Brewery and taproom which feels faraway (ho ho) and is a somewhat isolated little venue on the River Mersey, converted from a former metalwork factory. Badly whitewashed interior and cheap dull school hall furniture so could do with a bit more warmth, but the large windows at least allows a fair amount of light through. Tried a pair of their own brews – Colombian Espresso Coffee Stout (NBSS 4) and Green Hop Bitter (NBSS 4) so a very strong quality showing and the brews were also really impressive as well, much better than the usual ‘will this do?’ liquids often encountered at these sorts of venues and were at the upper end of the cask spectrum. ‘Decent staff’ I wrote but can’t remember why, but a positive nonetheless. So in short, not great as a venue, but the quality of the cask demands a visit if you’re new to the town or brewery. 7.5

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Runaway Brewery Tap
Quite a nicely done taproom, down by the River Mersey in a converted factory, separated from the brewery by a glass door on the left-hand side. Simply furnished, but a step up from the usual canteen-style tables. Ten craft keg beers from the bar-back taps, plus a Session Pale and the Columbian Expresso Stout (£4.80) from the pair of handpumps.

A plain industrial building beside the river as it rushes out of Stockport. The breweing kit is in the left hand side, with the bar ahead and refectory tables and chairs on the right. There's a couple of hand pumps, but my eye had been caught by the blackboard listing the 10 keg offerings, among which was a black IPPA, Only After Dark 6.0%. OK, it's only a keg beer but it was wasn't too fizzy for my liking, and just a little too cold. The full list was a bit too heavy on pales, saisons and sours, but another time I might have been tempted by the 9.9% barley wine at £4.30 for a half. The view of the river through the window might be enough to bring me back...
