Will Larter left this review about William Gemmell

This is still a club, though no one questioned my walking in the door and asking for a beer - and anyone who has heard me speak knows that I sound nothing like a Yorkshireman. There are two rooms, with the larger one on the left looking something like a sports bar. On the bar are three hand pumps with beers from the Marstons stable: Wainwright, Banks's Sunbeam and 61 Deep. The Wainwright was OK and only £3 a pint. The walls in the smaller room on the right were covered with b&w photos of the shipping industry. (William Gemmell was a Scot whose family moved to Hull, where he became a shipbuilder. He lived in the house, part of which is now this pub.)
