A smart estate pub with a couple of flat roofed extensions, one of which looked like it was set up for live music performance. The walk up here from the Royal Oak is interesting and challenging, with optional footpaths across the grassy area at the summit, and deserves a better reward than the half of Stones keg bitter that was the best I could find on a bar with two disused hand pumps. To be fair, once it had thawed a little in front of the solid fuel stove it had a discernable flavour, but really - how long should you have to wait? This pub was quite smart and there were half a dozen regulars, some playing pool, but the loud music discouraged any attempt at conversation.
