Well described by ETA below, this tap room is located on a small industrial estate on the outskirts of Cheddar, but it is nonetheless clearly popular with those in the know, and the outside tables were pretty much all taken on our recent Friday evening visit. A mobile pizza van is, I believe, a regular feature and we enjoyed our Pepperoni and Texas Barbecue options.

Internally it’s quite compact, with the small front area being devoid of seating and given over to the shop part of the establishment, with plenty of bottled beers to take away, as well as a few barrels from which you can presumably fill a flagon or two, or perhaps buy the whole one, a small array of other branded merchandise such as baseball caps and tee shirts and a number of awards that they have won. Beyond this was the bar counter, and beyond this again was the actually brewery. The only seating available was in a small snug off to the right which despite the breeze block walls actually managed to look quite pleasant, with all the blocks having been painted grey, rough wooden boards on the floor and benches also formed from rough wooden planks, but softened with hessian covered cushions to sit on and branded Cheddar Ales cushions for décor, as well as further awards on the wall. They certainly seem to have made a bit more of an effort than many brewery taps which can be very stark and industrial, although space really was at a premium and I’m not suite sure what would have happened if the weather had been more inclement.

Beers on tap were all their own as might be expected, and consisted of Potholer, Gorge Best, Crown & Glory, Piney Sleight, Totty Pot and Bedstraw. Ciders meanwhile were predominantly from Harry’s with their Traditional Medium, Raspberry & Blackcurrant, Mango & Lime and Rhubarb along with Rich’s Golden Harvest. Overall, a pretty decent pub and well worth popping in if passing or in the area, although as with many such establishments, opening times are restricted so do check before making a special journey.

A very successful brewery in an understated shed on a small industrial estate. The Brewery Tap consists of a bar and inside seating area which shares the building with the actual Brewery, and the Brewery shop is a of the same set-up. There are also several benches and tables at the front of the building, frequently shared with the motorcycle clothing business next door which makes it quite sociable. The inside seating area is set up like a snug, though it is quite cool due to the brewery plant, so it isn't that cosy. There is a dartboard in a smaller area next to the seats. The bar counter is next to the shop area, both of which sell the full range of Cheddar Ales's beers, the former in draft and the latter in various bottle packages. The real ales from an array of taps were in perfect condition, and prices were reasonable. There were also 4 real ciders in boxes on the bar. The staff were pleasant and sociable, but we were surprised at how few customers there were drinking on a warm Summer's day. Definitely worth a visit if passing.
