Blackthorn _ left this review about Basement Beer
Located just off the popular Stokes Croft strip, this is located down a rather scruffy and graffiti riddled side street, so may not perhaps expect too much in the way of passing trade. There was a decent crowd in on our recent Wednesday evening visit though, but that may have been on account of the Christmas pub quick that was on. It is the brewery tap for Basement Beers, and some brewing vessels were visible through a door at the rear, although they have not made a feature out of this part of the operation as many places have.
As might be expected, the décor is rather basic which I suppose suits both it’s industrial nature and the location. Walls and ceiling are just plain whitewashed plasterwork, with cables for the lighting and so on just tacked along the surface. There were a few pieces of unusual, graphic design style artwork on the walls which perhaps softened things a bit, and many of these were for sale. Lighting was provided by exposed filament light bulbs, strings of fairy lights and candles on the tables, whilst the seating arrangements were basic benches. Other than that, there was really little of any note, and it didn’t really strike me as cosy enough to linger for too long.
Beers on tap were presumably all their own and consisted of Oblique Strategy, Destination Unknown, Red Ryenocerous and Lost Horizon. The solitary cider meanwhile was Pulpt Flare which went down very well. Do ring ahead if making a special journey – we have tried to get in previously, only to find them shut well before their advertised closing time.
