A good looking stone building just a short climb up from the main road, but if you didn't know it was here you wouldn't suspect its existence. The outbuildings that make the place seem a little like a farmhouse are home to the Kibble Brewery, three of whose beers are on the bar. I was steered towards the Kent Thin Pale or the Barnsley Bed Bitter (which sound like they're named after coal seams) and had a half of the first named, plus a half of the one in between, the stronger Colliers Monday Ruby. This was cloudy, cold and seemed a little sour, or maybe just old. The Kent Thin was fine, though. All the beers were £3.20 a pint.
The pub is fairly plain inside, with white walls and plain green-painted wood panelling. I felt a little out of place, as there were quite a few locals and there was a bit of conversation going on, but having sat down at a table I was somewhat isolated. I'd taken a photo of the pump clips, and I wonder if they thought I was one of those strange people who review pubs and beers? Nevertheless, I'd be happy to come back here as part of a crawl of the pubs along the A628 and one or two others nearby.
