Old Boots left this review about Claro Lounge
Part of the national chain this branch is housed in the converted branch of NatWest bank. Externally it’s an undistinguished 1960s building out of keeping with its surroundings although the Lounge people have revamped it and it looks better than in banking days. Inside there is a large front room and a smaller back room, the front room has large windows giving views into Ripon’s market place. Decorated in chintzy style with exuberant wallpaper, a mix of wildlife, and still-life drawings and oil paintings as well as some photos and a stuffed fish. Well illuminated with a number of large brass lanterns and tasselled lampshades as well as some Art Deco style lights in the back room and giant globes over the counter. Seating is at low tables and chairs as befits a cafe-bar, there are comfy chairs in one front bay and a couple of posing tables in the middle. Beer is supplied from a couple of high T-Bars, slightly too high for the lass who served me, the choice is well known keg brands and a few bottles, the only one that caught my eye was a Bristol Beer Factory milk stout at £4.95 for a half litre bottle, “draught” beers were between £4.15 (Amstel) and £5.20 (Punk IPA). There’s certainly enough staff. Food is a varied simple menu of burgers, dogs, tapas, and sandwiches with a few more substantial mains, it also does all day breakfasts. Toilets are downstairs in a lower seating area with a terrace and there’s constant piped music. An interesting addition to Ripon and a nice change from mostly lack lustre pubs and coffee emporia.
