St Austell pub in a premier position overlooking Babbacombe bay. GBG listed, there were four St Austell ales; Liquid Sunshine (very good), Tribute, Proper Job and HSD. Service was friendly. Not a huge amount to write home about interior-wise, just a rectangular room with tongue and groove panelling and some inevitable nautical ephemera. A pool table sits to the rear. We decamped to the front decked area to enjoy the vista. Ordered food and despite a slightly lengthy wait (40 mins) it came out very nicely and in good portions sizes (I was almost defeated by my prawn & crab mornay) so worked out as pretty reasonable value. If you’re doing Torquay, getting up here on a sunny day for a decent ale and a good view is a no-brainer.
