This is really not my sort of place, and if I hadn't seen a solitary hand pump lurking among the keg taps I might well have walked out. Since Quinno's review a couple of years ago one of the cask beers has bitten the dust, and unfortunately it's the Doom Bar that's gone, leaving me with the option of a house beer from Rhymney or the swinging saloon bar door. It's difficult to rate the quality of a beer like this, because even the world's greatest cellarman would struggle to make a really good drink of a beer from a brewery that seemingly uses the previously-used-tea-bag method when it comes to adding hops to the wort. Never mind, we'll call it NBSS 2.5 and move on.

Large modern café bar aimed at casual diners and holidaying sports fans, with screens everywhere. Fairly bland decor though the metal bar front with lights and the Art Deco sun ray was nice. Two cask on, Doom Bar and a badged house beer from Rhymney which was in decent nick if not exactly shifting (NBSS 2.5). Ate here and the grub was in good order, served-up by friendly staff who were very good with prepping a gluten free dressing for my partner’s food. It’s a different beast to the far more pubby Galleon but does a decent job in its own right.

The Ocean occupies a prime spot on the seafront. It comprises of a Chip shop, bar and a coffee shop/ice cream parlour. It does cater for pretty much everything. I tried all three during my week. The bar area offers the usual lagers etc alongside Doom Bar and their own Ocean Bitter. They show live sport. I also went there for breakfast which was excellent. All in all a decent place.
