A strange beast, being a brand new inn in a fairly traditional style, albeit with modern finishes. Clean stone floors, some exposed brick and stone walls with smart wood and paint elsewhere A big fireplace houses a log burner and helps divide the main room into three, while there is a very nice private dining room behind as well. It's all fairly aimed at dining, but drinkers are equally welcome. The outside is similarly clean and modern, with new paving, fences and hedges. In fact the whole place just needs 50 years or more of weathering in and it will feel great. Cask ales on were TT Boltmaker, Great Newsome Sleck Dust and Theakstons Best, in very good condition.

Being in rural North Yorkshire it’s mostly a restaurant but there’s no problem having just a drink although the tables not set for dining were few and few between on my visit. Four pulls with a house badged beer from Rudgate, Rudgate Jorvik and Taylor’s Landlord with a reversed clip in addition to an unclipped pull. There’s also a good range of gins and some Guinness plus a couple of mid market lagers on a mini T-bar. Although a new build there’s a lot of exposed stone and flag floors, ex-navy painted counter and woodwork. The pulls and glasses have either the restaurant’s name or a lime leaf inscribed upon them. The service is restaurant style so don’t expect quick service. Whatever its merits as a restaurant and B&B it’s not a great pub but at least the locals now have somewhere to go after the cynical closure of the village pub and it is a popular place.
