We made our first visit to the Black Lodge yesterday with the bar celebrating its first anniversary. This is the Black Lodge Brewery's first venture away from its Brewery in Liverpool. It's a small, one-room bar that opens from 1pm on Wednesday-Sunday.

There are a couple of Black Lodge cask beers on handpull. One had just gone off leaving only Baltic Best. Keg beers served from the rear wall of the bar were Hundred Dollar Volvo, Birthday Blueberry Beer, Bjorn, Traummaschine & Baltic Pale. My Bjorn was far too carbonated for my liking.

Staff here seemed fairly friendly and a unique feature is the vinyl record player at the end of the bar. Not a bad place to add onto any crawl of West Kirby's pubs and bars, but there are better options.

Sister bar to the, just as bad place in Heswall. A small bar, not far from Morrisons, were you can get better and infinitely cheaper beers and sit on the beach. Anyway small place has 10 wall taps for crafty(ish) nonsense, plus a variety of "how much!?" canned/bottled beers. Various instruments adorn the wall - tuba, clarinet, trumpet things. You can also go round the corner to the much better West Kirby Tap or the Wethers (should your "I'm too posh" crap falter).
