A different experience to ROBC – a weeknight visit finding the place almost empty (and last orders called at 10pm). Being 'next to' (a side road separates them) The Robert Shaw potentially doesn't help; I went to the RS first and walked past the place which was empty at the time. A shop conversion with woody floor, some exposed brick a smallish bar on the far right on entry and six BE ales available from 7 pumps plus 3 real ciders on three separate pumps to boot. A friendly and under-utilised be-aproned barman offered me tasters of some of the lower ABV selections (a chocolate stout came in at 6.4% and an IPA at 5.8%). Plumping for something called NZP3, I was served a decent and hoppy pint for £3.50. There is additional seating upstairs which looked cosy (this is also where the lavs are located).

A small bar which acts as the second outlet for Blackedge Brewery. It was absolutely heaving on my Friday afternoon visit with hardly anywhere to stand, nevermind sit. There were about 30 people in and all of them were talking and roughly none of them were listening. There's a lack of soft furnishing, so it was very loud and echoing, despite being full. There are seven handpumps all drawing Blackedge beers, pretty much all of which are good. My pint was in very good nick, but the loudness of the whole place was unbearable for long.
