I wouldn’t really call this a pub – it’s more of a cafe lounge with a nice sitting room. It’s one of a small chain of lounge-style bars which offer modern warm food. Spread over two floors, the downstairs is rather cramped and used to be a coffee shop, while the upstairs is more comfortable, pleasant and spacious – this floor is a former gymnasium, has pleasant décor and large curved picture windows offering views of Taunton’s busy shopping area. The upstairs has comfy seats, a few dining tables and an open brick fireplace – though whether this is functional or not is doubtful. There is no real ale, which is a huge downside as far as I’m concerned, but there is ‘craft’ IPA (something generic called Hub Pale Ale), two ciders (one is again a rather uninspiring ‘Hub Cider’) and Kovac lager. It’s comfy and welcoming, but falls short of being a venue of choice for me.
