Will Larter left this review about Boars Head

This is an attractive pub building, probably built to serve the nearby railway station, Higher Poynton: built in 1869 and closed in 1960. Probably three or four rooms originally, there are now two largish rooms, with the bar between them. Three real ales were on: Black Sheep Best, Wainwright and Landlord. My half of Black Sheep was frothing badly, and the resulting drink told me that it had probably not been given enough time in the cellar before being put on the bar. Possibly the previous barrel had been used up quickly, as the pub's situation near both the Middlewood Way and the Macclesfield Canal would bring a lot of passing trade in fine weather, but better not to put the beer on at all than serve it in this condition.
