Part of the Voodoo Ray’s pizza restaurant chain, this is a modest sized eatery located in the ground floor of the Boxpark Shoreditch complex. The place is pretty easy to miss if you’re arriving from Shoreditch High Street station, as its entrance is at he far end of the complex, around the end corner and therefore not visible unless you’re approaching from the opposite direction. Like most Boxpark outlets, it’s built into old shipping containers and has an unusual layout with three narrow seating areas with high stools and ledges running from front to back and a long serving area and kitchen along the rear wall. Pizzas are available whole or by the slice and my general impression from those I’ve sampled here and in their Dalston branch, is that the pizza is high quality but somewhat over-priced.
Quite how this has ended up on Pubs Galore is beyond me. The chain does not serve draught beer and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone visiting just to have a drink, although I would imagine they’d be happy enough for you to do so. Drinks here were limited to a few craft beer cans and bottled beers such as Ashai and Estella. I tried a 330ml can of Beavertown Gamma Ray which cost me a remarkable £5.60! Sure, it’s a nice beer, but not at that price.
I had no idea this place was on Pubs Galore when I visited it, so didn’t take any notes, but I would say that it is a real stretch describing this as a pub and I would most certainly not be recommending it for anything other than a quick and easy place to grab some good quality pizza.
