The thatched stone cottage is grade 2 listed and has 12th Century roots. It's currently operated by Hall and Woodhouse, and it is now more a restaurant with a bar than a pub. Locals don't really use it, while the main customer base is grockels during the summer and Sagalouts at other times. There is a car park shared with the local recreation ground, although they have annotated some spaces as belonging to the pub. There is a small outside seating area at the front, which has covered tables and benches. Inside, the three main areas are conjoined, mostly laid to table, with no bar stools. There is a separate function room, and there appears to be a skittle alley, though we weren't sure where that was. The two barmaids were friendly and cheerful, but the pub lacked atmosphere. Food was ordinary restaurant fare. Prices were slightly above average, including the venison lasagne special which at £19.95 was a little deer. Four handpumps on the bar, but only two cask ales on, Fursty Ferret and Tanglefoot, both in average condition. The keg range featured some from Outland - Helles, Stout, West Coast IPA and Hazy IPA - plus Cruzcampo, Thatcher's Gold and Haze, and Moretti. Opening times are unpredictable and often don't match their published hours. Worth dropping in for one if passing, but not really a destination in its own right.

One of two pubs in the pretty village of Axmouth, this is an attractive thatched Hall & Woodhouse pub overlooking the estuary.

Inside, there are a number of different sections. Although, most of the space had tables set out for diners. The two female bar staff were both friendly and could offer me two Badger beers - Best Bitter & Tanglefoot from the 4 handpulls, whilst the pub dog was happy to wander around for fuss and any titbits that might be on offer. My Bitter was pleasant enough.

An idyllic-looking thatched stone building. A Hall & Woodhouse place and fairly blandly made-over inside with a lot of plain wood. Bland muzak and awful framed motivational phrases in the gents, urgh. Three ales on; a house beer, First Call and a fairly terrible Tanglefoot that tasted like it had been fished out of the River Axe which runs through the rear of the garden. On this form it’s best left to the middle classes and their dinners.
