E TA left this review about Bittescombe Inn
Previously The Lowtrow Cross Inn, nd before that a farmhouse, the pub was taken over by new owners and is now part of the Bittescombe estate. It's an isolated roadside pub with limited parking at the front and a large, well-manicured garden at the side. The garden had a marquee in it when we arrived, presumably in preparation for a function, and there is a good sized restaurant in an extension to the original building. On entering the main bar we were disappointed to see ash trays full of fag ends on the bar, presumably the remains of a private party the night before. The bar had stone tiled flooring and an open fireplace. It was comfortable, having a mixture of banquette seating, chesterfields and stools around low tables in addition to the restaurant, while the background muzak wasn't too intrusive. The landlord was welcoming and friendly, making a good effort to ensure the beer was up to scratch and our dogs were looked after. The food menu was home cooked and reasonably priced. Two cask ales on, Exmoor Ale and Gold, cider from Southwest Orchards, plus a keg range of Shipyard, Poretti, Thatcher's Gold, Carlsberg, Guinness and Estrella. If you happen to be in the area I'd give it a try.
