Old Boots left this review about Winckley Street Ale House

Small shop like conversion with a square room to the front and a narrow area with booth seating to the rear. The counter is between the two areas, with four pulls and ten keg taps. Plain decor apart from some shelves of interesting stuff such as cameras, typewriters and mincers. Beers from a range of small breweries I’ve never heard of or drunk before, bar four and that includes Guinness plus Broadoak cider. Odd but nice.

Four cask micro-ish or perhaps more of a small bar. Craft keg also available. Decent amount of indoor seating for the size of the place, with some additional pavement seating to the front of the premises. My Staggeringly Good Stop, Drop & Roll on cask was enjoyable and slipped down nicely.

Great range of intresting ales - on keg and cast.

External seating. Interior, I think I was sitting on reclaimed church furnishings. Very pew like.

Electronic score board needs to be closely observed so you can prepare for the pricing shock. Most beers sold in thirds, halves, schooners and pints.

If I told you Preston were selling Kernel IPA 6.8% for £9 a pint, would you believe me?

Neat little micropub that was totally filled by the PuG crawl. My pint of Mobberley Brewhouse Cheshire Pale was in good nick. I'm not even sure what disingenuous means, but I do get to taste a lot of Twisted Wheel brews in and around Rochdale.

Small, modern L shaped shop-conversion bar aimed at the Preston hipster(s), exposed brick and spray paintings on the walls, bench seating etc. Three samey cask over four pumps (the spare was being used as a blue roll dispenser!), my Mobberley Cheshire Pale was in good nick (NBSS 3.5) and surprisingly cheap at 3 quid for a pint. Also a selection of craft and bottles, unexplored by me. Shame it's not still called the Otter's Pocket, I wanted a pic of myself outside with the sign for a Viz tick. Anyway, this is worth its place on the crawl list. GBG ’22 listed.

A nice comfortable shop conversion with a reasonable selection of both cask and keg beer, I opted for a pint of Moberley Cheshire pale which was pleasant enough. Certainly a pub to visit on any future Preston trips.

Winckley Street Ale House is a shop converted bar that has tables with chairs and pew seating at the front faced by a bar that supports four handpumps. One of these was being used as a blue roll holder, but the other three were drawing Brewsmith Pale, Mobberley’s Cheshire Pale and Twisted Wheel’s Speed Wobble. I went for a pint of Cheshire (3.9%) at a very reasonable £3. The back bar is lined with 10 keg fonts that were dispensing seven craft beers and Guinness. Food is available, the burger and chips is priced at £7.77.
In the left rear is some booth seating and a burner is in a small fireplace adjacent to the front seating area. There was some low background music playing and one of the two huge televisions was on with a display of the available beers. The service was very friendly and surroundings comfortable so I would visit here again.

A newish addition to the Preston drinking scene ( opened November 2018 I believe) in a former shop premises, the Winckley Ale House mainly focusses on craft beer options with a nine tap wall at the back of the serving counter, but there are three ale hand pumps on the front of the counter that had Brewsmith Pale, Mobberley Brewhouse Cheshire Pale and Twisted Wheel Brew Co. Speed Wobble available on our visit. I ducked the craft Rivington Brewing Imperial Stout at 10.5% and £9.50 a pint being shown on the electronic display screen for a half of the Speed Wobble at £1.90. One of our party disingenuously referred to the Twisted Wheel ale as chicken soup, but I quite liked it.
Comfortable place to enjoy a beer with the front bench seating section and the boothed side are as described below and there was a couple of additional benches outside to the front of the bar.

As described below, a nice little one-up-from-a-micropub in what passes for a posh area. the Brewsmith Pale was reasonable, if a little lively in the pump. I wouldn't object to dropping by again.

As mentioned, this is a new conversion on genteel cobbled Winckley Street, just off lovely Winckley Square.
A half of Twisted Wheel's Speed-Wobble is noted as being 'Ok', price not recorded.
