C, or is that U, shaped venue Youngs establishment that is the ground floor of a modern development. Indeed, this whole area looks like it has only just been built. Indeed, the name given to this area of Woodberry Down feels like something out of a Beatrix Potter book. Saying that this felt more like a FU shaped venue to cask aficionados by Youngs. A poor man’s version of the Depot Peglar Square but in a probably slightly more expensive neighbourhood. Felt very food led. Outside seating around the perimeter in what felt like a millennial ecosystem in N4.
Surprisingly for a Youngs pub there were no functioning handpumps and so no cask beer available. The hand pumps on the bar were clearly for show only. So, cask not even ordinarily sold, but just not available at the end of the evening I was here, nothing, nada in the cask department. So, a rather bland keg offering of Guinness, Aspall, Pravha, Madri, Estrella, Camden Hells, Neck Oil and Beavertown Lunar Haze. From memory, last beer aside, I think that is nowadays the pretty uniform keg offering in their pubs. Shunning the keg offering I had a 175ml glass of the Chocolate Block red as a thumb to the nose of being in a Youngs pub that can’t even muster an Ord or a Spec. At £13 a glass suspect they had the last laugh.
Zero chance of me ever visiting this one again. It is a pub in name only. Shame on you Youngs if this is what you think the pub of the future is.
