Much as described by Strongers, below, this fairly ordinary town pub was characterised by awful disco music, very lively, friendly female staff, live football on the TV, a wholly ineffective young bouncer and a clientele consisting mainly of early twenties drunks. Doombar was the sole cask ale on, and there was a dry pump. Their main trade is very obviously keg, a range consisting of Thatcher’s Haze, Amstel, Inch’s Cider, Guinness, Moretti, Old Mout, Lunar Haze’s Hazey IPA and Neck Oil. I shan’t be rushing back here but I’d pop in if I were desperate for a drink.

The lights were on but the doors were closed when I tried to visit the Three Crowns late on a recent Monday afternoon. A second attempt 24 hours later found the doors open, but there was only one other customer, an old boy who was dishing out sweets to the staff. The U-shaped bar faces a fireplace to the right, mixed seating across the front and a raised seating area to the left. Televisions throughout were showing Sky Sports News, muted in favour of background music. Premium keg was available alongside a couple of Beavertown taps and I noted two pairs of hand pumps. One pair was unused leaving Sharp’s Doom Bar and Salcombe’s Gold as the cask ale options. The service was polite, but I didn’t see anything here that would make me return for another beer.

Great location on the quay with loads of outside seating and views if all the boats. Solitary Doom Bar pump. Piped/jukebox music. Two TVs . There is a military (maybe Marines) theme to the photos that down the walls. pleasant enough place and nice to sit outside of on a sunny afternoon.
