Blue Scrumpy left this review about Beer Lab
Situated on a parade of shops a little way out of the centre of Heswall to the east, this is a small micropub that I last visited in May 2019, when I left feeling impressed. My early Saturday afternoon visit this time was much more disappointing.
With no other customers and no music, it was eerily quiet with just the sound of cooling units to entertain me. Bare boards on the floor are interrupted by a solitary rug. A mirror at the end makes what looks to be a shop conversion a little bigger than it really is.
The bar is to the rear right and I was impressed to see a copy of almost every Good Beer Guide ever printed on a shelf high up to its rear. 3 cask ales were on. There was a the house beer (Beer Lab Pale Ale) from the Beartown Brewery (probably a rebadged Kodiak), 4T's Geronimo & Purple Moose Calon Lan. Craft beers were Azvez Cosmic Loneliness, Beartown Creme Bearlee, Sierra Nevada California IPA & Lervig House Party. Apparently this used to be the local cider pub of the year which is probably why I rated it so highly on my last visit but I couldn't see any sign of any ciders this time around.
I ordered a half of the Geronimo only to be asked if two thirds was ok instead. I declined this offer and ordered a third instead. I find not serving half pints a bit of a rip-off tactic. So, I'm happy to play the game and just order a smaller measure.
I'm still wondering if I missed the cider range this time around. Perhaps I'll pop back some time to ask the question.

A good sized one roomed micro pub that was a former mountain bike shop. The interior was modern and has been finished to a high standard. The bar area is situated mid way along the right hand side, which gives plenty of seating space along the front and down the left hand side. The bar area had an oak counter top and dark green painted bar front which matched the painted feature wall opposite. The bar area also had some coat hooks along the front and a foot rest, trendy copper pendant lamps hanging above the counter were a good feature. The flooring was polished timber and the seating was low tables, plus some bar stools along the counter.
Three ales on handpump on my visit, Peerless Skyline, Brimstage Trapper's Hat and Liverpool Brewing Cascade. Five craft beers, a fridge full of Belgian beers and a choice of 24 cans and bottles, which were displayed on a chalk board behind the bar. The barmaid was welcoming and chatty and offered samples of all their three cask ales.

A new micropub. Not too bad a place with 4 real ales and a number of crafty beers. A selection of trendy cans and bottles also available. Its one of those finicky places that only do pints, thirds and two thirds so if you just want a half then tough titty. Beers today were Brimstage Trappers Hat, Rigg And Furrow Run Hop Run and Mobberley Whirly Bird.
