The Rock Lodge, Whitstable

Previously Deco 5, this single room bar is formed from two smaller rooms conjoined and decorated to try to look like an Alpine bar – log piles, skis and ski-related bric-a-brac dotted around, 3 big TVs showing skiing and other Winter sports, and even their own newspaper on all the tables. I’m not sure Whitstable’s high street area is the right place for a ski lodge though. The prices were authentically high. On arrival the staff were welcoming, and they offered water for the dogs without being asked, and they were helpful despite being busy preparing for a forthcoming open mic night. No real ale – the craft offerings were Neck Oil, Gamma Ray and Rock Lodge Lager, alongside Moretti and Inch’s Cider. It was good enough for a drop-in while passing, but I shan’t be ploughing my way back here next time I’m on the piste.
