Cordoned off from the main brewery, this brewery shop-cum-tap room is located in an industrial unit along a long, single track road accessed via an electric sliding gate near historic Notley Abbey. Bottled versions of the beers with gins, wines and Belgian beers on shelving to the right, various cases of XT bottles in the middle of the room and an L-shaped bar against the rear wall with two handpumps, usually offering the session bitter XT 4 and Animal HopCat IPA. Taps on the bar wall offer seasonal Animal and XT brews. All pints £3 reducing to £2 if you're a member. Of particular note is all the colourful pump clips of current and previous brews and the pork pies, supplied by the wonderfully-named Monty Pieman, are excellent. A 6.5 rounded up to a 7.
