Strongers . left this review about Hicks Bar

Hicks Bar is St Austell Brewery’s tap adjacent to the brewery above the bottle and souvenir shops on the ground floor. There’s a mix of standard and high furniture in an open plan space that is faced by a serving counter in the left rear corner. There are six hand pumps, obviously all St Austell beers, as well as four regular kegs and four guest. I sat opposite the counter at one of the high tables under hops hanging from the beams across the wooden vaulted ceiling. I plumped for a pint of the Anthem that is a good session beer. Through an opening to the right of the counter is the Brewery museum where there’s more seating and the brewery’s timeline is displayed on the wall. A viewing window looks down into the automated packing area to the right and the brewery room bar is to the left, access for tours only. The service was friendly and I’m a fan of St Austell beers so I enjoyed my stop and would gladly return.

Hicks Bar is the tap room for the St Austell brewery and is located above the brewery shop in the visitor centre. It’s open every day except Sunday and is more of a lunch time venue as it shuts by 5.30pm most days.
The main bar room has a modern decor with brewery paraphernalia and pub signs around the walls, and then there is a larger room beyond which has large internal glass windows overlooking a section of the brewing plant.
Decent food menu available but the main draw is obviously the beer and most of the St Austell range was available. I went for a paddle of their Big Job, Mena DHU stout and the Proper Black, black IPA, which convinced me to pick up some bottles of these from the shop below.
Prices in the shop were reasonable, but you can still pick up Proper Job and Tribute cheaper in the Supermarkets, so swerve these and go for the things that you don’t see in the shops.
