This had been open just over two months on my Thursday visit. It was built from scratch so doesn't really bear much resemblance to a normal pub and it's not one of their larger outlets. Inside it's a roughly L shaped open plan room with the bar on the right and fairly typical furnishings. The kitchen is clearly upstairs as the food serving area has several lifts behind it. There is a patio to the rear left that looked like it could be quite a sun trap on the right day. The food prices here are more expensive than average but not outrageously so. It was doing a good trade of what seemed to be largely food on my early afternoon visit.
There are two sets of hand pumps that had the JDW Trio Of Doom doubled, GK Abbot Reserve, Brains Rev James, Acorn Darkness, Adnams Southwold Bitter, Pheasantry Vulcan Blue Steel and a cider. There was a sign on the bar saying that the Acorn Darkness, Rev James and Abbot Reserve were just £1.29 so I went for the Abbot Reserve which was in good nick and would almost certainly have fallen foul of any future minimum pricing legislation. I also tried the Pheasantry beer as the "free" drink with a meal and that too was in good nick.
I thought this was a decent enough JDW but it is a concern that apparently not enough beer is being shifted. With a standard guest ale price of £2.29 I would have expected the strong Abbot Reserve to be closer to £3.00 a pint. If it had been £1.29 in most outlets people would be falling over each other to order it.
