Strongers . left this review about The Crooked Man
The Crooked Man was busy upstairs and down when I visited on a recent Saturday evening. According to one of my drinking buddies this Victorian building used to house a Citizens Advice Bureau before being converted in to a pub. I counted three hand pumps on the bar which is located on the left-hand wall. One of these hand pumps was unused leaving Beartown Kodiak and Beatnikz Republic Leather Soul as the cask options. The keg options were a lot more diverse with multiple taps on the back-bar fireplace. I plumped for a Paulener, which was the only beer I had heard of. The dry sales stretch to bar snacks.
I didn’t spot any televisions or signs for live TV sports. A weekly Wednesday quiz was advertised, as was an upcoming Sunday bazaar of photos and jewellery etc. Live music is advertised on the pub website. The walls were adorned with pieces from local artists, which were all for sale. Upstairs is a rear seating area and larger front seating area where a DJ was playing a set. The toilets are also located on this floor. Out the back is a smoking area enclosed by six-foot wooden fencing.
This venue has restricted opening hours (Mon: closed, Tue – Thurs: 17:00 – 23:00, Fri - Sat: 13:00 – 00:00, Sun:13:00 – 22:00.
This is a relatively expensive pub, but I liked the atmosphere so will return when next in the area.
