The Redwood is a large Brewer’s Fayre owned pub that doubles as the dining area for the adjacent Premier Inn. The L-shaped bar supports a standard keg range and I counted three hand pumps. One was off leaving Black Sheep Brewery’s Golden Sheep and Sharp’s Doom Bar as the cask ale options during a recent Tuesday afternoon visit. To the right of the bar is a self-service food area; during my visit the evening deal was all-you-can-eat fish and chips for £6.99. From the pub co traditional menu I plumped for a mixed grill that was probably just worth the £11.99 price tag.
Most of this vast food led pub is used for dining and the odd screens dotted around are used to promote the pub with corporate adverts. However, there was some background noise courtesy of a local radio station. To the right of the pub is a soft play centre that I imagine is a joy to behold.
Being centrally not far from the M6 this pub and hotel are popular with travelling businessmen and the reasonably priced menu seems to attract a few locals. A Brewer’s Fayre is never going to be my destination pub, but as a hotel bar and restaurant they are hard to fault.
