Will Larter left this review about Keld Lodge Hotel
Keld Lodge was originally built around 250 years ago as a shooting lodge and became a youth hostel in the post-war period before closing in 2004. (I stayed here when walking the Pennine Way in 2000.) It is now a hotel specialising in accommodation for walkers, though customers are required to cover their muddy boots with plastic bags, like crime scene investigators, to protect the carpets. There's a small bar in the reception area, with one hand pump serving Black Sheep Bitter and some keg fonts including Guinness. There's not really anywhere for a drinker to sit, with both rooms kitted out with dining tables, and the lounge being for residents only. A couple of pews can be found in the front porch, and there are some bench tables at the side, which can be a bit of a sun trap if you're lucky. The beer was in very good nick, and luckily for me I was cycling so my shoes weren't muddy.
