Previously The Olde Forge, the building has been substantially refurbished inside and out to create an open, airy pub and restaurant which provides a community focus. There is a communal carpark adjacent, and there is a small paved garden area behind. Inside, there are three main areas, one primarily a restaurant, one a proper bar and the third a seating area. Upstairs rooms have been opened up and can be used as function rooms or normal bar/dining. There is plenty of oak and hamstone on display, which creates a pleasant, modern atmosphere in a traditional setting. There are several custom made barstools consisting of iron tractor seats on adjustable poles, plus a variety of tables, chairs and benches. Food is a mix of modern pub food styles and they do take-away pizzas. Bar snacks are expensive, though. The staff are young and friendly. There is a daily happy hour, good news for the cash-strapped locals. Six handpumps on the bar, one (clipped Exmoor Gold) had just gone off leaving 2 Butcombes, 2 ciders and Otter. I had the Butcombes Original which was in excellent condition. An excellent place to stop if passing through and worth seeking out for lunch.
Update: On the 2018 Somerset Ale Trail 18. Dogs not permitted.
