The Queen of Hope Street is another 1936 Pub Company establishment. Visited on a Friday in May at around 12:40pm and there were only a couple of other gents in. At the bar, eight hand pulls offering seven ales and one cider. I went for the cider, which was actually dispensed from the hand pull.
There are a couple of bits of old pew seating but despite the cushions it felt quite rickety and creaky, and not that comfortable! It slopes forward too, perhaps to stop you getting too comfortable and falling asleep during sermon.
Pies and sausage rolls are available.
It looks a modern bar type place from the outside, but much more pubby on the inside. The doors to the gents and the kitchen area are a bit grubby and could do with a clean, but the gents themselves were pleasant.
I'd be happy to return.

Located in the ground floor of a very modern building opposite the Philharmonic pub one way and Philharmonic Hall the other way. Furnished with Victorian pub and domestic furniture including banquettes and Britannias. The lighting is by 1930’s deco lights, and the walls are decorated with pictures of women from several eras and also some brewery ads. There’s a splendid carved counter along the back wall with eight pulls and two low T-bars with a Brooklyn solo. The cask range included Nepture, Vocation, Weetwood, Taylors and Theakstons, similar to other1936 pubs in the area and default half glass is the bloody handled jug. It’s long and thinnish with lots of clear windows and an outside seating area.

Looking from the outside as garish as a seaside amusement arcade, this turned out to be a really nice pub with an eclectic music track and a fine collection of women's portraits; as far as I can make out they are not Queens but just fairly ordinary people. Intermingled are painted mirrors, screens of various designs that break up the large open space, and even more weirdly, heads of mostly female deers and a 12-point red deer stag. Oh, and lots of pewter tankards suspended from hooks in the ceiling and way beyond the reach of anyone wishing to drink out of them. Getting back to routine, there are eight hand pumps, with a cider and seven beers, two of them stout. I went for one of them, Black Lodge Swallow the Key 4% (NBSS 3.5, £4.30/pint). The bar counter is of stained wood with caryatids spaced at intervals. Truly weird. Give it a try!

At The Queen Of Hope Street, there's 8 pumps lined up along the bar: the first dispensing Seacider, the rest mostly local ales, with Theakston as an interloper. Dortmunder Union and Erdinger offer something different in the keg range. £4.20 for a pint of ale seemed absurdly cheap to me, even if the beer was a little hazy (though not in the modern style). There's also a limited food offering.
The pub features stone flooring with mostly perimeter seating leaving plenty of room to pack them in, so I can see The QOHS getting fairly loud later in the evening.
In summary, it's alright, but there's obviously better elsewhere in the city centre.

I've visited this place when it was The Refinery, but didn't have a drink as it was a mess and fizz only. Thankfully things have changed and it's now a pleasant, if rather large bar with a good selection of real ale in good nick. We're often around this part of Liverpool, so we'll be calling in again.

The pub has been well described recently and there is nothing left to add but to agree it's certainly a good addition to the area, after my poor beer experience over the road in the Philly, the beer here was like nectar, Neptune Sea Of Dreams being my choice. A really enjoyable pub.

Another good addition to this part of town. You could have a mini crawl around here, what with the White Hart and the Engineer on the scene. I agree with Blue Scrumpy, this pub does look like a large Irish theme bar. However once inside it is nicely kitted out, in fact a lot of thought has been put into the place. The bar area runs down the left as you enter with glass globe ceiling lights running down the full length, plus lots of bric-a-brac adorning the walls, especially when you get down the back into the lounge area.
Eight handpumps serving 7 ales and 1 cider. The line up on our visit was Weetwood Cheshire Cat, Chapter Dead Man 7, Blindfold off and Water Does. Along with Carnival Sunshine and Flower, Titanic Plum Porter and Chocolate and Vanilla Stout.

Well I have been back, and it has grown on me a bit, though I still can’t totally warm to the open plan layout. Quite a civilised place in an afternoon, no sign of the rowdy groups that can plague this cities pubs on a weekend, and background music playing rather than football commentary. Very nice steak pies too.

another pretty decent new pub with lots of dark wood and traditional furnishings. Perhaps a little contrived but nicely done. Unfortunately the open plan layout does make it rather loud when busy and the sports TVs are much more prominent than in the Red Lion. Plenty of ale on if not the most exciting selection, I got a decent Robinsons Unicorn in a dimpled mug. A large selection of pies are also on offer. Given the other options in this area I probably won’t be back.

A fairly large pub which feels a little like an Irish bar at first sight. It's opposite the Philharmonic pub, which will inevitably be much more popular. But the real ale range in here these days is much more exciting than it's previous incarnation (the Refinery) and also more exciting than the Philharmonic itself.
The interior is narrow and long opening up to a good sized seating area at the far end, where there are plenty of TVs to watch live sport. It is much darker in here now and the atmosphere is quite cosy. Bar staff were friendly.
On the real ale front, regular beers are St Austell Proper Job, Salopian Shropshire Gold & Timothy Taylor Boltmaker. Guest beers were Carnival Never A Frown, Weetwood Eastgate & Cheshire Cat & Ossett Voodoo. A further handpull was clipped with Lilley's Rhubarb Cider. Craft beers were Grand Central IPA & Carmen Mosaic.
I quite liked this place and found it better than the Red Lion and whilst I haven't been in this group's other pub (the Vines) for some time, I suspect this place has the best beer selection of the 3. But ironically, it's the one which is furthest away from the city centre.

Now called The Queen Of Hope Street. Ran by same lot who have The Big House(Vines) and Red Lion. 8 handpulls on the bar. Beers are expected to be the same as what's on in other two and likely to remain the same choice for months. Pedantic point: it's actually on Myrtle St.
