The Sunbeam is a Hungry Horse on the ground floor of a curved glass fronted building next to a bus station. The open plan left-hand side of the pub is for dining, with the area being popular during a recent Thursday late afternoon visit. The smaller bar area is found to the right where the central counter serves standard and premium keg alongside GK IPA and Abbot Ale which were available from two of the three hand pumps. Seating runs along the front windows opposite the counter and up the right. There’s also lots of café seating out the front. If I had some time to spare while waiting at the bus station, but not enough time to make to the Spoons and back, I would remain in the bus station.

A big modern Hungry Horse handy for the bus station, with a large glazed frontage and with a nice mural round the back based on the local Sunbeam car brand. Adequate so far. As in most HH's, it is separated into the family dining bit and an 'Over 18s' drinking area. The bar counter of the latter was stacked end to end with dirty glasses, which is hardly a favourable sign. The solitary server on the other was trying and failing to cope with demand, eventually providing a mediocre GK IPA (alternative Abbot). Frankly, life is too short.

A new Greene King Hungry Horse outlet developed as a part of the new bus station. It is in a shared building with glass frontage. Open plan inside with a bit of Sunbeam car ephemera, silent TVs, a dartboard and naff else. Service was poor, the clientele mixed although few in. Beer was the usual 3 GK pulls: IPA, Abbot and a warm Spekky Hen. I struggle to think of anything positive to say about this place, other than the leaving of it was a delight.

Bland Hungry Horse place on the bus station. A couple of beers on which were OK. Decent for people watching but not much else. Only a few minutes walk to the train station but so is Spoons! You decide which is the best option?

Modern new build Greene King Hungary Horse outlet at the bottom of a new office building, right next to the bus station.
Lots of tall glass windows provide good natural light, there is an over 18s section for those having food before catching the bus home. Poor, slow service and short measures, makes Wetherspoons look efficient & this is an all round poor chain offering.

Large glass fronted Hungry Horsey thing. Open plan and all lovely and shiney. Pictures of the old Sunbeam rust buckets can be found on a wall somewhere. 3 handpumps serving the usual Greenecking IPa, Old Speckled Hen and Abbott. For families really and as it was half-term it was full of Grandmas and Grandads who have had their grandkids foisted on them for 2 weeks.

Hideous new build exterior of a Hungry Horse outlet that opened at the end of March. Next door to the bus station.
