This former cinema is now a restaurant and bar, primarily food led, which also offers B&B accommodation nearby, not in the same building but part of the same business. There are two entrances on the main road, reflecting the division of the cinema into two distinct ground floor areas. On the left is the smaller bar and American-style diner, formed from the former foyer and ticket office area, a couple of barstools but mainly table seating, the décor reflecting its earlier role. On the right is a large function room which was the cinema’s theatre and still retains the high stage at the front and its own bar counter, though this wasn’t in use when we were there. There is a more formal restaurant upstairs with a woodburner and table seating. The bar previously offered two cask ales, but there was none on when we visited, and there are no longer any handpumps. The keg range consisted of Arctic Sky, Guinness, Thatcher’s Dry, Carlsberg, Guinness, Peroni and Madri. The staff were cheerful enough, the other customers mainly groups of diners, including families. Probably fine for lunch but without the cask ale it holds little appeal for me.
