Blue Scrumpy left this review about Mawson's

Single room micropub with laminate flooring and yellow painted walls. The bar is to the rear with a cool room behind it. Music was playing and a wifi code is provided to help you keep in touch with the modern world.

Good Beer Guide-listed, there are 6 handpulls on the bar. Just 4 were clipped for my Monday afternoon visit. Ales on were Hop Monster Child of the Jago, Green Jack Trawlerboys, Fernandes HP Lovecraft & Crouch Vale Tap Room 19 10th Anniversary Ale. Ciders were Pulp Apple Craft, Dudda's Tun Applehorn, Snail's Bank Orchard Dry & Raspberry Ripple & SeaCider Blueberry. Craft beers were Anspach and Hobday London Black & Siren Lumina.

There are regular buses from the city centre out to this suburban micropub, which is great as long as you know where to get them from. A rather large road building project appears to be ongoing in Southend and buses are running on amended routes. I only discovered this after waiting at one stop for 20 minutes. Buses are still signed to depart from the Chichester Road stop but they are all on diversion, with no notices to say so!

In spite of my issues getting here, I would say it was worth the effort. The barmaid was friendly and they really seem to go out of their way to source some more unusual brews.

Fabulous micro for the following reasons:

a) open 2 mins before advertised
b) beers poured through
c) gregarious and engaging guv'nor
d) Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five on the stereo

Long oblong interior, done to a good standard with eye-catching textured bronze paint. There’s a fully-functional sit-down arcade machine table. Four cask on plus the usual additions of cider and craft. My George's Cockleboats was quality (NBSS 4). Well-worth coming out of town to take in and is one of the best micros I’ve had the pleasure of drinking in. 8.5
