Aqualung . left this review about Saint Peter's Ale House
Bedford's first micropub is owned by Red Brewery, not one I'm all that familiar with. It was formerly a hairdressers. Inside it's an L shaped room with around half a dozen tables and chairs. These furnishings are all new, modern and matching rather than reclaimed from a skip.
The floor consists of black ceramic tiles and the rest of the interior is white. There was some unobtrusive low volume music from behind the bar, probably for the benefit of the young bar staff as strictly speaking it detracts from the micropub status. On my early Friday afternoon visit there was just a group of half a dozen or so older punters in.
In the right corner is the small bar behind which is a rack holding 11 casks with cooling jackets of which five were on when I arrived and Vale Black Swan appeared during my stay. The five were Red White Duck & Kangaroo, Gundog Lord Barker, Phipps Gold Star and Saffron Blonde. There were also four ciders all above 6% ABV. The beers were priced between £3.00 and £3.30 which combined with the 30P CAMRA discount made them good value. I tried both Red beers and the Phipps Gold Star. The Phipps was in good condition but both Red Brewery beers were quite hazy and flat. Whether this is down to the pub or the brewery I don't know but it's ironic considering the Red Brewery set this place up. It loses marks for the poor condition beer but other than that I thought it was a decent place.
