This is a really small micropub run by the local Maldon Brewery. In the small square room there is space for just two rectangular tall tables but no stools. There are benches along the side walls and by the window. It is a bottle shop as well but it doesn't overwhelm the room like some micropubs which are just off licences with a few casks. The bottles are stored on shelving at the back of the room. Despite being small it is quite cosy as it's an old building with beams on the ceiling. It's quite a contrast to what Mighty Oak have done at the other end of town. There was a small group of friendly locals in on my midday Thursday visit.
The cold room is through a narrow doorway and has to be walked through to reach the toilet. On my visit there were three Maldon beers, Farmer's IPA, Much a Brew about Nothing and Nelson's Blood plus surprisingly a guest from Oop North, Summer Wine Teleporter (£3.40) which was excellent.
I thought this was a friendly, quirky and enjoyable place. Maldon has become one of the more interesting towns for pubs in Essex.
