This crossroads pub has recently reopened after a lengthy closure. The new owner is an enthusiast and a talker, I imagine a salesman in a former life, and seems to be enjoying life in the back of beyond. There's a campsite nearby, which appears to be tied into the pub, unless I misunderstood, and it's certainly a good way of ensuring there are customers. There were a handful of people mid-Sunday afternoon, watching a football playoff, while I was just in the market for a cask beer. There's only one hand pump, but it's a local beer from a nearby farm, brewed from a local water supply: Aldwark Baabarian Gold (NBSS 4, £4.50/pint), which was slightly better and slightly less expensive than the same beer at the GBG listed Miners Standard a couple of miles up yon hill, which I had just cycled down. After being open for just a few months there are still a few rough edges about this pub, but I wish the new owner the best of luck.

Barely clinging in there, it would seem. Grand wayside inn gone to seed. Shabby interior, bit that said, not actually the worse for that. Handwritten, pies-heavy menu. Decent and welcome pint of Thatchers.
