Unusual operation with a cafe in a separate right-hand room whilst the main pub is on the left. It's massive. Enter to a longish main bar with pub carpet, light painted walls and sofas. A pool table lurks behind a pillar with the bar to the right. Down steps to stage area where regular live music is scheduled (they provide kit for open mic nights, including drum kit!). Beyond this to a function area and garden with a slightly disturbing children’s plaything which is an anthropomorphic plastic tree with a very unsettling expression. No cask but some Black Sheep was spotted in the fridge – the friendly landlord told us that his son won them in a raffle and being too young to drink them, they are being sold at the bar with all profits going direct to the young man’s pocket. 60s classics on the speakers made for a decent atmosphere despite the place being quiet. I liked what they’re trying to do here and if I were staying nearby on a live music night I’d make a point of popping in.
