A traditional roadside pub which offers good food and beer at a good price. There is a car park off the side road next to the pub, good for cars but might present a problem for anyone towing. The inside has been knocked through to provide a single open plan bar, though this is still informally divided into a pubic bar at the front, with tiled floor, dart board and a TV screen which was switched off, and a carpeted dining area behind. Table skittles and a couple of board games were offered in the public bar are. There is also a conservatory extension at the rear which in turn leads to a small garden area at the back. The staff were very welcoming, particularly the young barmaid, while the other customers were a mix of a couple of friendly local lads and a steady stream of ramblers coming off the Quantocks. Dogs were welcomed, even having blankets and towels provided for them in addition to water, dog beer an treats. Food was basic, freshly cooked and good value. One ale on draught, Exmoor Ale, which was in excellent condition. There was a second pump with a Doombar clip, but this had run out. Keg choices were Cruzcampo, Moretti, Guinness, three from Thatcher’s and Amstel. A great pitstop before or after crossing the Quantocks.
