Thin and dull oblong shop conversion, a stone’s throw from the entrance to the BR. Weird sticky-out bar (pier-like, as per review further down) which is situated at the far end of the room and you have to go to the right side to get served which is a pest if time is tight and you’re unfamiliar with the house system. Usual micro-style seating. Live train departure board, which is always welcome. Six cask on, good range of strengths and styles. My half of Daradach Stout by Tun Brewing was in really good nick (NBSS 4) and under a fiver, as was my follow-up of Mallinson US Blonde (4) coupled with swift and efficient service. It all seemed decent enough in here given the context, apart from the broken front door not fully closing which was a bummer on a wet and windy day – I see that this was a problem way back in 2018! Cask range and quality means it is a default when changing trains - I’ll absolutely use it again in that context. But as a 360 degree pub experience it does fall a little short. It's not GBG listed this year but should be, based on my visit. 7.5

The Piccadilly Tap is a thin bar with open plan seating in the wood panel walled front that consists of high tables up the left and centre and banquettes up the right-hand wall. At the rear is a fake stone cladded bar area with a very thin U-shaped serving counter that supports at least five hand pumps that were drawing TT Landlord Dark, Blackjack Brewery’s Jack in the Box, Mallinson’s Shifting Chaos and All the Women as well as Adnams Lighthouse. There were also a couple of real ciders and I counted 21 keg fonts across the back bar for premium and craft lager, stout and cider options. I was the last person served just before the polite but eager to leave barmen rang last orders at 22:30, a decent pint of All the Women was had. Upstairs is another room with the same 1970s wood panelling and stone cladding, some green banquettes and a pool table. There’s also balcony seating at the front that overlooks Crazyville below. It was better in here than I thought it would be late doors on a weeknight, although the background music was very niche

This modern bar is really close to Piccadilly station and so it ideal for use when travelling,it has a small scrolling train departure board.There are external high tables while inside the shop conversion is functional but unattractive with lower level seating to the right and high tables elsewhere.
A two sided bar extends into the body of the pub,there is a pool table upstairs,a few more seats then an attractve balcony overlooking the walk way.
There is a large beer menu opposite the bar with 5 real ales well chosen on my trip with Blackjack Early Days Porter,Adnams Ghost Ship,Marble Pint,Thornbridge Lord Marples and Kirkstall Disollution IPA (NBSS 4),together with 3 real ciders and 18 kegs with many contintal lagers,beer from leading microbrewers and a single sour.
A decent ale line up was worth more than the single pint I consumed and I will use this pub when ever the opportunity arises.Better than I was expecting in this area not known for good ale.

The Piccadilly Tap is of course very convenient for the nearby Piccadilly railway station. However, as railway taps go, I much prefer the Victoria Tap across the city.
There are 2 floors to this bar, with the bar in the centre to the rear of the ground floor. A blackboard on the right-hand wall lists the cask and keg selection. Most drinkers congregate on the ground floor, meaning there are often free tables upstairs, where the unisex toilets can also be found. There is outdoor seating to the front at street level and also on a balcony upstairs.
Cask ales on yesterday were Bradfield Farmer's Blonde & Stout, Runaway Queen Bees & Adnams Southwold Bitter. Bag in the box ciders can be found in a fridge to the rear right. These were Pulp Apple Cider & Lilley's Bee Sting Perry. Craft beers were Runaway Queen Bees (also on cask), Adnams Mosaic, Siren Lumina, Vault City Cloudy Lemonade, Squawk Mallard & Skua, Shindigger Mango Unchained & JW Lee's Stout. There was also a fizzy cider (Adnams Wild Wave).
It's been over 5 years since my last visit here and it's not my favourite bar in Manchester. However, I wouldn't rule out a return visit as it's an easy final stop if catching a train from Piccadilly.

Drops in and out of the Good Beer Guide and is currently there in the 2024 edition.
Former shop right on the station approach, so a better place to stop than greggs.
Typical collection of interesting beers but a low score for serving Rothaus in a standard UK pint glass. If I am paying for the experience, I want the full experience.
Head upstairs for more tables and a fine view of the commuters below.

A busy pub just outside the station. The bar is unusual, being shaped a little like a pier, sticking out into the dock which is the floor space where the drinkers congregate. There are five hand pumps along one side, but it seems the staff don't serve from that side (or maybe that's just how it panned out when I was here). I had plenty of time to contemplate this while waiting to be served as it was so busy, and one of the beers was misbehaving and another needed changing. My half of Hawkshead Bitter was in good nick and I would have no problem calling in again, though next time I would try to make sure I have more time to spare before the departure of my train.

Called in from the station on 11.8.22 before going to check in to travelodge and found a couple of new cask beers on to start the day. Saltaire DDH Citra and Roosters Easy-going assassin.

Called in after getting the train into Manchester Piccadilly on Friday afternoon. The place was pretty busy but on reaching the bar and examining the beer menu I found nothing on cask that jumped out at me so did an about turn and left. I really can't remember what the line-up was, and to be fair I'd had a few beers in Stockport by this point, so memories are a little hazy. I daresay I shall try it again at some point.

Woefully understaffed for a bar near the station, what staff there are, are not really up to the job.
Five pulls of not a brilliant choice in spite of the presence of two Roosters beers, very poor beer quality on cask. The island bar has 18 keg choices which MAY be of better quality, I didn’t check. If this is owned by the same people as the York, Harrogate and Sheffield Taps then Jamie Hawksworth needs to sort this out PDQ. Modern wooden lined box with low and high tables down each side. More seating and pool table upstairs. Nasty would seem an appropriate description.

if a large range of beers is your only basis for a good pub you'll love it. the other main selling point is proximity to Piccadilly and it is your best option in that immediate vicinity. sadly it's also a cold and somewhat dull place. a bit like Wigan Central without the charm. Also the door doesn't shut by itself and I got tired of having to close it, plus you've got an Everest climb to the toilets. 6/10.
