This establishment was a former lockup for storage and was opened in 2010. It basically consists of one good sized room with a large elaborate bar over on the right hand side. The walls are painted in a bright yellow and the floor is boarded. Eight cask beers on our visit, Rat Brewery White Rat and Take Rat, Abbeydale Deception, Pennine Hair of the Dog, Abbeydale Absolution, Marble Laconda, Batemans XXXB and Bristol Beer Factory Milk Stout. We were made very welcome here by the owner and his wife, their son and the locals. Stayed here a lot longer than anticipated and all the beers were in excellent condition. Plus the Derby Tup is only around the corner.

Originally an off licence, there are now eight hand pumps on the go here. A lively atmosphere at the time of my visit, with the landlord regaling a few regulars with his experiences of physical abuse by his teachers in Chesterfield 30 years ago. On the beer front, there's a wide choice from the likes of Wentworth, Sheffield Brewing Co, Wentwell, Barlow, Raw, Thornbridge, Double Top and Timothy Taylor - nearly all local breweries. This is worth the trip out from the town, especially as the Derby Tup is just around the corner, but please note that it opens at 4pm weekdays.
