Will Larter left this review about The Red Lion Hotel
Just the one hand pump on the end of the bar, but it was serving an excellent Orkney Dark Island when we were here. We were in luck, because it had just come on. The friendly barman, who doubles as the chef, confided that the regulars had been champing at the bit because it had taken a while to settle.
The bar is on the left of quite a large room in the right hand part of this long building, seemingly made from amalgamating two houses. With stone flagged floor it might have been cold, but it was warm and cosy on a dank and drear November afternoon, with a pleasant open fire and comfortable seating - benches and sofas. The new owner, who bought the pub off Punch Taverns last year, has restored the hotel rooms upstairs, and they are now doing a good trade in meals as well as beer. It's good to see a well run pub thriving.
