We tried three of their cask ales on our visit, Elgoods Cambridge Gold, Brummie Bitter and Sambrooks Pumphouse. The Sambrooks resembled some sort of coloured water, awful stuff. Luckily for me the young barman exchanged it for a pint of Stella to accompany my Thursday night curry. The service on our visit was good and it was no trouble for the waiting staff to find us, when we switched tables to get away from a spoilt child kicking off.

Yes I agree with others not much interesting character here, with the possible exception of the visible cellar with barrels on the first floor , but then that’s not the point of the Parkgate Centre and it’s associated modern and shiny associated bars and restaurants. The developers clearly went for the glass and metal interpretation of modern architecture but that does give modern bright clean spaces. Even the micropub round the corner is one of the most modern in decor I have seen.
Fortunately back in this ‘spoons the central log burner wasn’t necessary on another day where this years summer continues to break temperature records but the very pleasant outside fence enclosed seating area direct onto the pavement certainly was and was being well utilised on this Saturday evening.
All twelve pumps in operation but with quite a few house and regional offerings taking up several. However there was still a good choice of ales outside these and my pint of Titanic Raspberry Pale was in good form.
If you want a traditional pub round here then the M&B owned Saracens Head a short walk down the road is probably your only option. But with their beer range I would hazard a guess that it would not be too long before you are back here or the small micropub around the corner.

As stated below this is a modern Spoon's which is part of the shopping centre and as such it is worth noting that they can't serve alcohol until 10. It resembles a coffee house to be honest! An enormous log burner heats the place and it was a bit smoky on my last visit. Inveralmond Bard, Saddle Black, Slaters Stafford Hop amongst the beers on offer.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Pump House (JD Wetherspoon)
Very modern 'spoons with a double-height glass frontage that helps - along with the high ceiling at the front, and the generally light furniture and decor - to give the place an airy feel. A very unusual feature is the glass-fronted 'cellar' at first-floor level above the back of the bar where you can see all the cask ales on stillages. Some duplicates, but still a reasonable range from the 12 handpumps too, from which I selected the Kendrick's Porter (£2.45).

large modern Wetherspoons, packing tables in, plenty of natural light, high ceiling. Not one for traditionalists, but ok

This is a very modern Spoons that consists of a glass and steel box. They don't seem to have made any effort to make it interesting inside with the bar on the left in one large room.
The bar has twelve hand pumps which had GK IPA & Abbot, Doom Bore and cider all doubled up. This left Caledonian First Dawn, Oakham Bishops Farewell, Brains Reverend James and Sadler's Peaky Blinder. I had the Peaky Blinder as the drink with some Beriberi chicken and it was in good condition. The chicken was as you would expect. The standard guest price here is £2.45 which is higher than most Midland Spoons probably because it's a fairly recent addition. I thought this place was OK but if you're looking for an interesting building it's a disaster.
