The layout and position remain as described by Steve, below. It’s main selling points are proximity to the beach and car park, plus the outstanding view, but as a pub it leaves a lot to be desired. The staff were less than friendly, and the food, while cheap, was not great. No real ale, unsurprisingly, while the keg options were Shipyard, Thatcher’s Gold and Hobgoblin. There were a few other pumps but these didn’t seem to be in use. Fine for quick refreshments if you can find a place to sit, but not my first choice.

Visited the fantastic Brean beach a couple of weeks back at the start of the mini heatwave which worryingly seems to be what passes as our summer for 2021 and decided to try the Sundowner Cafe and bar for a spot of lunch before hitting the beach.
Positioned to service the adjacent large caravan park, this is more like a holiday camp social club than a pub and to be honest you would only come here if you were staying in the adjacent caravan park or visiting the excellent Breen beach (which is one where you can drive your car onto the hard sand and park all day for £6) and I wasn’t expecting much, especially when working out that you have to queue at a hatch to place food orders if you were eating.
It has the benefit of a very large outside garden space equipped with as sizeable kiddies play area and small wooden hut blaring out tunes to the assembled punters continuing the holiday social theme.
We we’re very pleasantly surprised when our tuna and ham sandwiches turned up and they were excellent and very good service levels from the mainly young staff who were struggling to keep on top of the punters at the food hatch and thirsty punters at the outside garden bar but doing a fine job to get through them.
On the bar front, internally and externally it’s standard keg products only as you would expect and cider and lager seems to be the order of the day, but then I would have been surprised to find any ales or craft beers here. But there was a Butcombe keg bitter which was obviously served frozen but hit the spot on a hot day.
