An unassuming little pub which has all the features of a micro, though it doesn’t claim to be one and is probably a bit too well appointed to come into that category. The single long carpeted room looks like it was previously a shop premises. The bar is at the end furthest from the door, L-shaped with ciders in front of you and ales both on stillage and handpump on the right. The décor is eclectic and includes various musical instruments to complement the piano on one side. They host regular folk music events, while there was some not unpleasant rock music playing on the hifi when we visited. The pub is well known as a cider house, a reputation backed by numerous CAMRA cider awards. There is an extensive list of bottled and boxed ciders, and four of these were on handpump – from Burrow Hill, Rich’s, Janet’s Jungle Juice and Torre. Two ales on gravity were from Otter, Ale and Amber, while Gorge Best from Cheddar and Holden’s Black Country Mild were on handpull. No food is served, but they’re very happy for you to bring in takeaways and food from the local deli. Despite their location and reputation they haven’t been ruined, and I’d definitely recommend a visit here. I shall certainly be back.
