Four cask ales at the time of my visit - two by Deeply Vale, one by Abbeydale, plus Lancaster Black. The Depply Vale Optimum bitter was £1.50 for a half, so a great price. Loitering at the bar seems to be standard procedure here but there is one high level table with stools within the unit itself and further seating comprised of picnic bench type seats, which are presumably communal for all market users.

Note that One For The Road is within the main market and not the food hall section.

It was a bit chilly at the time of my visit, as indeed was the beer, but it was good to try somewhere new and the ale was decent. Looks like the beers are available in pint, half and 2/3 measures, with prices being shown on a chalk board. Some keg stuff is also available - Mahou, Beavertown and Budvar were observed.

Found through the Matthew Curtis Book but also in the GBG 2024.

9am opener in the market hall, which makes for an interesting and busy place to drink. A small bar area, but outside bench seating shared with the local eateries. Lord only knows where the loos are :-)

Local casks at a bargain £3 but I was drawn to the rarely seen Budvar Dark lager.

Friendly bar man, keen to share recommendations and advice of other places... not least his sister pub that isnt in the Curtis Guide.

A market stand serving as a decent craft/ale bar. Lots of regulars crowding around the bar and quite a jolly atmosphere, similar to the Bob Inn in Chorley. It’s not really a pub but it’s a good addition to the market. Vibrant and surprisingly multicultural with a few Asian families drinking here. I quite enjoyed the hubbub here and a decent coffee stout.

One For The Road is a market stall based in Bolton's Indoor Market. Only open on market days (Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday) until 5:30pm, we arrived quite late in the day to find it was the only open stall on the market. Nevertheless, there were still a few customers and a few market traders who had finished for the day.

Stockport ONE is the regular beer. Guests were Pennine Pacific & Black Hole The Dark Side, whilst the real cider was Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon. A craft beer available was Northern Monkey Patience Is A Virtue.

A decent place for a drink in Bolton town centre. Although it did lack a little atmosphere with all of the other stalls closed. It is perhaps better to come here earlier in the day.

As noted this is smack bang in the middle of an indoor market. Similar to a bar in Warrington market and the Arndale Centre this is basically a small stall. 3 handpumps on the bar but only the 2 for cask, the other for cider, but The Fell Robust Porter was nice so good on em. The adjacent bus station has been relocated so not sure what the future will be for this part of Bolton.

ROB Camra left this review about Great Ale

Small ale bar in the middle of Bolton Market. Lots of wooden tables in the middle of the market to sit at, shared with the other food stalls. 2 handpumps on the bar, a couple of craft kegs and lots of bottled beers. This really isn't my scene, sitting having a beer in the middle of a market. The beer was well kept, but the ale stall ws surrounded by a load of noisy scallies. The bar is only open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday 9 - 18:30.

This micro bar is positioned in the food square of Bolton's newly furbished Market Hall and very handy for the bus station. There is a constant rotation of locally sourced real ales and a large selection of around 70 bottles of ale and cider to go at,although did not try any bottles as I was on a roll on the Chocolate Stout.
I think the bar is open every day with some days till 6 30pm with 25p off a pint on Tuesdays.
