Old Boots left this review about Chester Station Tap Room

A square room in very elegant style and although the paint job is grey plague the original features are lovely and still discernible. The counter is at the left hand end with eight pulls, the four on the right serving Spitting Feathers beers, they lease the joint, while the left bank has non local small brewery beers, today they were from Kirkstall, Shiny, Stonehouse and Sureshot. The Spitting Feathers beers and the one from Shiny that I tried were in excellent order. There are also 20 odd kegs available, the Untapped display above the counter lists everything over two pages.

The decor has a rather magnificent arts and crafts fire place and a portrait of Victorian railway contractor Thomas Brassey - a Cheshire lad. He built a huge number of the UKs railways and even by modern standards was a benevolent employer, there is chapel in Chester cathedral to his beloved wife. Seating is in short booths round the periphery with tall tables and stools in the middle. The front door leads in from the taxi rank while a rear door opens on to the station concourse near the ticket barrier line, with a train describer board in one corner it’s very handy for travellers.

Visited in September 2025 - this relatively new opening is a Spitting Feathers venture. Entrances from both street and station concourse. I am not sure what was utilising this space before, but it has been nicely done out decorative plasterwork on the ceiling, chandeliers, and a fireplace (unused at the time of my visit).

Seating consists of a mix of booth seating to the edges, low tables and chairs in the centre, and a single high table at the fireplace end. There are also drinking shelves with high stools dotted around in the remaining spaces.

At the bar, 8 hand pulls with 7 in service at the time of my visit, offering Spitting Feathers ales plus guests. My curiously named Mouth.Pans.Hops (MPH) set me back £2.60 for a half, which I think is pretty reasonable for the location. Plenty of keg taps too, if cask isn't your thing, and four or so cider-in-a-box offerings.

Food is served with the breakfast menu 7-5 (8-5 Sundays and bank hols) and main menu 12-5.

It was fairly busy at the time of my Friday afternoon visit, so I expect this new venture will do well. Well worth a visit.

An excellent station tap, fairly recently opened by Spitting Feathers brewery. Comfortable seating and a very pleasant atmosphere. Six cask ales available, with a couple of their own beers and some guest ales. The two beers we had were in very good nick. We'll definitely be calling in here again.

Blue Scrumpy left this review about Chester Station Tap Room

There are some excellent taprooms at railway stations around the country. This new pub is right up there with the best. Opened by Spitting Feathers Brewery who also have the Brewery Tap in the city, the single tall ceilinged room is a lovely restoration of a Grade II listed building. We didn't have too long to admire the interior, but it does feature some impressive tilework, especially the large fireplace in one wall.

There are a total of 8 handpulls on the bar. 6 Spitting Feathers beers were Trio.Brew.Alien, Mouth.Pans.Hops, Old Wavertonian, Rocky.Dime.Stand, Brainstorm & Best Bitter. The other 2 were both from Salopian - Cypher & Escalation. There were also a couple of ciders - Nightingale Mystery Bird & Lilley's Cherries and Berries, as well as an excellent selection of craft beers - Spitting Feathers Rat Race, Howling Hops The Upper Crust, Whiplash Slow Life, Tartarus Megaera, Thornbridge Jaipur Does Faith, Blender Polyphemus, Vault City Brain Freeze Raspberry Slushy Sour, Spookton Pompidou Discount, Salopian Lemon Dream & Weekend Project Montane Grassland.

I'd venture as far as saying that this was perhaps my favourite pub of a day's drinking in Chester. If I ever change trains here, I'll make sure I allow enough time for a swift half or maybe even several. Well worth a visit.

Excellent revamp of part of the station builing and has the feel of an old time station rest room/bar

Will Larter left this review about The Station Tap

I didn't know of this pub's existence until about an hour before my train out of Chester, and had two other pubs to squeeze in, so it was inevitably a flying visit. But first impressions are that this is a station tap to rival Sheffield, York or Harrogate, though it has no connection to those, being owned by local Spitting Feathers Brewery. The exterior is plain and regular, but the interior is something to behold, the fireplace being spectacular. The eight hand pumps on the bar were good to see, also - though only seven were clipped, one of the brewery's own products having gone off and not yet been replaced. I went for the Dark Velvet mild, which was very good but not quite up to the mild I'd had a few minutes earlier in The Cellar. This pub is going to be a handy stop when I'm on my way to visit my daughter in north Wales. On the way back, too.
